Data and Search now the heart of Prague-based Accelerator StartupYard for 2014
Prague-based StartupYard aim to attract the best European projects in Data for its accelerator program
10 DECEMBER 2013, PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
SummaryBy specializing in Data, Search, and Analytics, StartupYard seeks to attract ambitious European projects to Prague, which is becoming a hot spot for data tech, and is home to developers from the likes of Social Bakers, Avast, AVG, GoodData, and search giant Seznam.cz.
Now in its 4th round, StartupYard is a seed accelerator for technology startups. Its goal is to help companies to build a viable product, launch fast and prepare to attract funding. StartupYard is accepting applications starting today for its April 2014 round. This round will focus exclusively on teams working in Data, Search and Analytics. At least 200 data driven projects from across Europe are expected to apply.
Teams will receive free accommodations in Prague, and one payed return flight from anywhere in Europe.
The accelerator will be setting its sights on the best teams in these areas from all over Europe; selecting only 6 from 10 finalists for its 3 month, English-language only Acceleration Program. The comprehensive program will cover all aspects of creating and growing a business, from legal and accounting, to hiring, code review and company culture, with access to 90 specialised mentors, media trainers, a professional native English copywriter and blogger, and perks worth €250,000. The full package, including all the perks and benefits, is detailed on the company website www.startupyard.com, newly relaunched and redesigned for the occasion.
“We have been cooperating with StartupYard for the last 2 years. For the upcoming year, we wanted to provide more than just our mentor advice to the teams. Narrowing the projects to big data and analysis has given us the chance to provide the teams with part of our technology, they can use in their projects,” says Pavel Zima, General Manager at Seznam.cz. Seznam, the Czech Internet giant, has stepped up and increased its role in StartupYard, becoming the largest investor in this new Data-driven program. In addition to providing funding and mentoring, Seznam.cz will also support data-hungry new StartupYard projects by opening access to part of its full-text search technology, and by making a large cluster of data available to teams, providing an invaluable growth and testing resource.
“Prague attracts many data companies, so we felt it would be to the benefit of our upcoming class if we specialised. We have a very clear objective: to attract the most ambitious projects from all across Europe in the fields of Data, Search or Analytics. To achieve that, we have put together a package we hope no entrepreneur in Europe could refuse,” explains Cedric Maloux, Managing Director of StartupYard. "We're not the biggest and we're not the richest," he stated in a private meeting of investors and mentors this week, "but we're focused on quality. We're focused on people. That's going to give us the edge."
Selected teams will spend 3 months at the StartupYard offices in Prague, following an intensive program aimed at turning a project into a viable business that customers would pay for, or that investors would be willing to fund. Candidates now have until January 31th, 2014 (Midnight GMT) to apply to the program. Participation in the program is free, StartupYard takes a 5% equity in the startups it accelerates. Teams can choose to also receive €10,000 of funding from StartupYard in exchange for an additional 5%.
